About Me

I love country living. Most of my life revolves around music. I like to listen to it, go to concerts, and perform it. I play acoustic guitar, electric bass, mandolin and twelve string guitar.  Songwriting is something I enjoy doing. I have been writing since age 14. "Standing on Faith Alone" is currently on a Limited Edition CD produced by Paramount Group in Nashville, Tennessee. You can see the lyrics and the story and video behind the song under Video/Music entries. Also in the  LINK (My Music) section is another great song , "I Reach For You." It is the best song that I have written in 2006.   Gospel Praise music inspired me to try my pen at writing this type of hymn. I must say it turned out very well.  I am married to my husband, Jim. We have been married for 32 years. We have one daughter, Michelle. She is a  recent Graduate of Virginia Tech  this year. GO HOKIES!!! I have a solid and firm belief in God. I read, pray and teach God's word. This may not seem cool to everyone. That's okay. Everyone has to find their own way. I never push my faith on anyone. My family are all NASCAR Fans. My favorite driver is Jeff Gordon,Car #24. My daughter is a fan of Car #88, Dale, Jr. I have two cats, Prance and Lucky. Also we have a Golden Retriever named Grace. They are actually family pets and all very beautiful. I live on part of our family farm and I am a country girl. I am active in my church and community. Living in the beautiful mountains of Virginia reminds me every day how blessed I am to be here. I enjoy listening to Country Music, Southern Gospel, Bluegrass, Gospel Praise and 70's Rock& Roll.  My favorite gospel group are  "The Isaacs".  That's me with Ben,  Rebecca and Sonja in the photos above.

The Spencers (2009)

As a farm girl I grew up in some of the most scenic countryside a person could hope for.  Craig County, Virginia, was and is my home.  My musical background comes from by Mom’s side of the family. I had several Aunts and Uncles who were very talented in music. My Uncle Charles Sullivan Bland, Jr. (well known as Uncle June) could play many musical instruments. He was also a Pastor. I credit him for my Christian faith and musical ability. My Mom taught me to play guitar when I was fourteen. I began writing songs as soon as I could make the guitar chords. One of my favorite songs off my Christmas CD from 2002 is “It Just Don’t Seem like Christmas since Momma and Daddy are Gone”. It was written by me in memory of my parents. I would sit on my front porch, sing and play my guitar. It is true that front porches use to bring families and neighbors together.  I am very proud of my family heritage and values I was taught. Some might say I am a little old fashion. I also learned to write poetry. Our Sunset at the bottom of the page is one of my best. My advice for the future is very simple, “Live your life with joy and be sure to tell those you love, I love you often. Wake up each day and never leave your room without saying a prayer when you arise and learn to like vegetables for they may save your life.” LOL

Sometimes in life, you find a special friend. Someone who changes your life just by being part of it. Someone who makes you laugh until you can't stop. Someone who makes you believe that there really is good in the world. Someone who convinces you that there really is an unlocked door just waiting for you to open it. This is forever friendship. When you're down and the world seems dark and empty, your forever friend lifts you up in spirit and makes that dark and empty world suddenly seem bright and full. Your forever friend gets you through the hard times, the sad times and the confused times. If you turn and walk away, your forever friend follows. If you lose your way, your forever friend guides you and cheers you on. Your forever friend holds your hand and tells you that everything is going to be okay. And if you find such a friend, you feel happy and complete because you need not worry. You have a forever friend, and forever has no end.

Our Sunset

by Carolyn H. Harris and published in  A Treasury of  American Poetry Volume III----Copyright ©2007,  page 278

My best friend came to visit me up on the mountain one day

We had so much to talk about but first we bowed our heads to pray

Then we talked about faith and his amazing grace

Of our friendship so special and how it puts a smile on our face

We talked about disappointments and all of our fears

How God has blessed our lives over the last year

Of all God’s blessings Love is the best

It brings us joy, peace and happiness

As we sang some hymns to offer our praise

A beautiful sunset before our eyes God placed

We just sat there and watched and nothing was said

As the mighty hand of the artist painted the sky a breath taking red

Later, what is the meaning of this sunset I said ?

Could it be red for the blood on the cross Jesus shed ?

Orange for the sins he bore for us all ?

Purple for the robe he wore in Pilot’s hall ?

Grey for the sorrows that surely he bore ?

Colors undescribable and so many more ?

We watched as it burst into colors so bright

Then slowly it faded out of our sight

The meaning is that our lives are like a vapor and so it is true

We’re here for a short time and like the sunset we too must move

To our eternal home in glory beyond the sunset in sky

Where friends and family never fade away and no one ever says goodbye
